A Malay Poet was in Town
Muhammad Haji Salleh, Malaysia’s National Artist for Literature, visited the department two Tuesdays ago. He delivered a terrific lecture on the Pantun which is a famous form of poetry in Malaysia. For someone who writes such compelling nationalistic poems, Mr. Muhammad can be quite the comic. I love that he shares the Filipinos’ bilingualism (and I quote him, “Damn that English...

Necessary Stops
It’s been almost two weeks since I last had on my sneakers. I miss running. I miss sweating. I miss the exhaustion that my body feels after a good workout, which ironically, is when I mostly feel alive. It is unfortunate that I had to sit out the last couple of weeks to mend a muscle injury. My left thigh has been in pain and people, most of all my parents, have told me to put on hold my...

What did I do right...
… other than cram my thesis to deserve such pretty things today?
Thank you to one beautiful lady for the loveliest earrings, my week’s supply of bread, and this morning’s conversations :)

– - from “This is not the end: ‘So here we go - it’s official - the band - it’s over’” by Luis Katigbak (January 14, 2011; The Philippine Star)
I’m lifting a couple of lines from said writer’s article on Bamboo’s break up. The lines are originally...

Dammit, Ophiuchus. →
It really shouldn’t drive us crazy, but this bit of news has caught fire before we hit the weekend. So apparently some people have been identifying themselves with the wrong zodiac sign their whole lives, and while we try as much as we can to adhere to “free will over fate,” the added Ophiuchus creates a kind of anxiety especially to those affected by the added 13th sign.
I must...
Not enough
You never really know when you’re loving someone too much or too less. You never really know when you’re giving so much or so little.

So I’m back to square one—- miserable and well, alone. But here’s a to-do! Since, rebounds are just so overrated and will not do good in the long run, I thought I’d find myself videos and photos of my celebrity crushes. I mean, hey, it’s better than chocolates and binge drinking anyway.
On that note…
Derek Ramsey is just everything sexy and gorgeous. It gets...
Why not Liz Uy?
I was thrilled to find out that she graces the cover of Preview Magazine’s first issue this year.
I am fascinated by Liz Uy! Although the dream job for me is to actually write for a publication, I still fancy the idea of people behind the glamour and beauty that Preview comes up with for each issue. How I honor her creative input.

Diner Dash at Johnny's
Sometime before twenty ten ended, my parents treated Allie and I to a classic diner in Quezon City. Johnny Rockets food is just too sinful. Yes,THAT good! It’s the perfect place to drown one’s sorrows in a tasty sandwich and a platter of french fries. Or better yet, the place to treat one’s self in a moment of elation.
The following are pictures of my visit.

P.S. Mario in Red, salamat sa drama <3
Seen any of the MMFF 2010 entries?
I am now officially a fan of the ebullient and venerable Aiai Delas Alas. Seriously, there is no contending with her Best Actress Award, or the rest of the seven awards that the third installment of the hit dramedy got. The comedienne showed that her prowess is precisely her versatility. That she can in fact do both drama and comedy in a single scene justifies her trophy. I like that the film...
Thank You :)
Gratitude is the memory of a glad heart… so goes a line I came across once in my reading and held onto ever since. I am thankful for many things. I may not look or act like it, but I mostly feel blessed than bitter (because life’s just a bitch sometimes).
I am taking advantage of this urge to count my blessings… and quite literally through a list of fragments and keywords, of...

My Jagged Little Pill
I guess life does grant you surprises when you least expect it to. Miracles do happen, and often they do on days when you think you don’t need any saving. My miracle came today, on the last day of the year.
I think of him as my jagged little pill as Alanis would put it, or the best thing I never knew I needed, in Ne-yo’s words. Had I not healed and learned my lesson over the last...

Where did my twenty ten go?
I can exactly remember where I was a year ago the same way I can vividly recall what I ate for lunch today. I was in a coffee shop same time last year, furtively watching an adorable gay couple break up. Of course my mother was (watching as well) beside me, and so was the rest of the gang (daddy, kuya, mikey, and allie) present, enjoying coffee and dessert. We were out on a date yet again.
